“Only Names” / Memorable Fancies #4306

[“They say of God, ‘Names name thee not.’ That holds good of me, too: no concept expresses me, … exhausts me; they are only names.” – Max Stirner]

The others have their own names for me; but they don’t know my real name, the name of power, the name to sign oaths or transfer property or enlist in the Army with. But they will at some time discover that name, too, and then I will go on to another name, and then another.

I have a long list of names I’ve saved, saved up for use, many of them carrying the prefix “Great,” others, only the comment “Nothing is known about this man, except his many names and lack of awards.”
