They sent me the manuscript, said they’d publish it right away if I didn’t pay them $5000 cash.
I read it: all my betrayals, all my failed seductions, all the disasters that followed me around like sequels.
I was impressed by the writer’s diligence, his craft in digging out those episodes I’d thought had been forgotten by everyone but me.
But I told them, publish it right away! I offered them $5000 to just hurry it up, schedule interviews and readings, let the cover show my staring, unashamed face.
