For many years in our tribe, our peoples’ names were not given at birth; they were earned, like battle-scars, by living them.
There are hints of these old names in some we still bear; hints of battle, or wisdom, or adventure, or faith.
The ones who ran away from death, or ruled poorly, or treacherously advised – these have left names, too; names we call our children when they misbehave.
