A man returns to his home town after thirty years, thinking there might still be a few who knew him.
But no, sadly enough, everyone he knew seems to have died or moved away.
He goes to visit the home where he grew up, but it’s not there.
Locals say there’s never been a house there, but they seem uneasy.
He asks them: How could there be no trace, no memory of anyone he knew? Mike Johnson, the barber? Sal Donton, who owned the local bar? Billy Douglas, the high school basketball star?
They turn away. By the next day, they begin to flee when he approaches.
His last question hangs in the air.
