[“We need a word to designate this object, this tool: but do we need a word to refer to this on Mondays, on Tuesday, etc.?” – Wittgenstein]
We buy a tool on Monday. Monday the tool is very sharp, and we have a special word to describe what it can cut. By Tuesday it’s been used a few hours; it can cut only material softer than it could on Monday. So we have a special word to describe what it can now cut on that day, the name it now is. And so on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
Sunday, we have a word for it that means “dull.” We throw it away.
