[“I came to Athens and no one recognized me.” – Demetrios of Magnesia]
I thought I was famous; I announced my forthcoming visit and hired criers and trumpeters, but as it turned out I was famous only as The One No One Knew – no one recognized – and no one bothered to ask.
I was the only one in Athens not famous – not quoted – not written up in stone – not dialogued – not Followed.
But finally, one said to me, now you’re famous because you’re the only one here in Athens who’s not famous … everyone else, we know all too well already.
