Your hands need to lift up your head and put it back in its place. But to do that you need to find your head, which may be some distance away from your shoulders, now that the executioner has exercised his skills with perhaps too much vigor, has made the head plunge away from the body, go rolling down the slope from the execution grounds, eager children rushing after it for a pickup game of tête-ball.

You try to follow them, but you can’t see where they’ve gone.
