“Its Pigeon” / Memorable Fancies #2671

[“I suggest to some of our disciples that they look into the matter of messages upon pigeons, of course attributed to earthly owners, but said to be undecipherable.” – Charles Fort]

The pigeon arrived yesterday; a strange pigeon, looking around in confusion, apparently arrived at the wrong place and not – quite – realizing it. I opened its tiny message capsule and found words in a language I didn’t know. I carefully copied these marks and took them to our local university. But no one there could decipher them.

“It seems to reflect,” said one professor, “a conceptual system foreign to us.” – or at least foreign to him. I went away, dissatisfied.

But then – something came looking for its pigeon.
