Everything in this place looked strangely familiar to me. I turned and mentioned that to her, or something like it, anyway: that I must have been here before – but I hadn’t been.

She shrugged. “In your other life, maybe.”

I said, “What other life?”

And she said, “Don’t you have another life? Isn’t that why you’re never quite here in this one?”
