The mind of a suspect is stored in the brain of a convict – a host device, to keep the culprit available for interrogation. “We do this,” the official explained, “when the suspect’s body has been beaten so badly by police that it won’t survive – so we place his mind inside a ‘volunteer.’ Then the criminal’s mind will survive to be punished and then put on trial.”
“And what happens to these ‘host devices?,” I asked; but the official just said “that’s the price we pay for justice, here. They’re just convicts, anyway; and we always have a good supply.”
