Bare words, by themselves, one by one, seldom hurt us; we can forget them as quickly as they are said.
But if the words do hurt us, their amplitudes, their angry flow, we can hear them one syl lab le at a time.
And if these still hurt, then l e t t e r b y l e t t e r …. Eventually we’ve tamed those words of hers, those angry truths. We have made of them, bare sound.
