“The Language of Pots” / Memorable Fancies #2287

[“He died in a lunatic asylum, and his last words were: ‘The pottery of the Mochicas is their language.’ ” – Eliot Weinberger]

His own ideas, he realized, could never be conveyed through the air, as sounds, without disappearing into incoherence and scattered among faulty memories. But pottery is – real: it can be seen – it can be touched, felt, – endure, not dissipating as the wind blows.

But pottery speaking,…? This was the thought that finally drove him mad.
