“Gosh Darn” / Memorable Fancies #2036

Back in the early days of the Republic (when I was in Methodist Sunday school, knowing no better) I was told that words such as “heck,” “gosh,” “darn,” “gees,” and “cripes,” were not to be spoken, because they were only cowardly ways of not-saying “Hell,” “God,” “damn,” “Jesus” and “Christ,” – in other words, “swearing” (as it was called in the early days of the Republic).

But gees cripes, what’s a guy supposed to do when he drops a gosh darn brick on his foot?

[“Cowardly,” because if you used the real words, you could end up darned forever in the searing fires of Heck.]
