“The Art-Thing” / Memorable Fancies #2019

[“She, too, could find the creepiness in things.” – Philip Larkin]

I made a Thing – that’s all I could think to call it – just “Thing,” this sculpture of my mind.

Other people looked at it, circled it hmm-ing and ahh-ing quietly, asked me derisively “Is this Thing supposed to be Art?”

They didn’t see the creepiness in it – but they hadn’t been here when my Thing came into the world, came out of my mind, pulling, jerking itself free of me, this Thing I’d never intended.

Now I don’t know what to do with it, how to deal with it, except call it … “Art.”
