She asks me a question. What assumptions does that question imply? How can I possibly unravel them enough to say anything?

But now she’s impatient: yes or no.

But I want to say yes AND no and two more of each. I want to say that the whole truth would take me forever even to say one small part of it, that nothing but the truth wouldn’t make sense because that only makes sense compared to its untruth,…

I begin to answer but see only her eyes, turning away.
