What makes a thing a thing is singling it out from the universal flux, fixing its boundaries, and declaring “this is a (name of thing) and nothing else is this same thing.”

Some parts of the flux you don’t name. They could have been “things,” too, if you’d bothered to care.

Perhaps our mission is to name as many things as possible, to give them an identity before each disappears, nameless, into the flux, the eternal torrent.
