OK, I thought for sure I’d die in that crash but I guess I didn’t, since suddenly I was here, lying on some cold hard surface, bright light shining into my face. I tried to move but couldn’t, or even close my eyes, which were beginning to hurt now from staying open without blinking for what was it now? Maybe two – three minutes staring straight up at that unblinking light.

Was this the afterlife?

But then I saw it, out of the corner of my eye: a scalpel.
