[“What more do we know of our destiny than of our origin? Let us then submit to an invincible ignorance on which our happiness depends.” – La Mettrie]
My aim is to know less each day. Every day I read something distressing in the morning papers. With some effort, I forget not only that particular bit of news, but other instances of the same cruelty, disappointment, disproportion, lack of the tragic sense of finding oneself on a small planet that one is helping, by one’s mere existence, rapidly to despoil.
