The War-Dead Commission finds a few human remains at Napoleon’s old battlefield of Borodino. With DNA analysis, now, their closest living relatives can be located. They are given a few microscopic bone shards and a folded flag.

With these new tools available to them, the Commission searches farther and farther back in time: Roncesvalles, Salamis, the storming of Jericho, Abel falling from his brother’s harsh touch.
