[“…take your laysure like a god on pension.” – Finnegan’s Wake]

   I remember the old days, the beseeching, prayers rising and smoke from poor burned animals dead on the altar, the suffering I couldn’t relieve and even the suffering I could.

      I don’t have to deal with all that anymore, but I was glad to have done some good in the world, anyway.

     But the praise – that’s what I couldn’t take; that’s what finally got to me.
