       It was a typical conversation between her and me: she was out somewhere and I spoke for her as well as for myself: the condemnations, the excuses, the lies. I accomplished quite a bit of relationship-building this way, over the weeks and months. But one day she didn’t return.

   And so the conversation continued, more corrosive and pleasing than ever.
