“Where Are the Gods?” / Memorable Fancies #1071

Demetrios raised his scroll and read us a long poem about warring and vaunting and slaughter and death, yet the traditional invocation of the gods was missing.

“Very nice,” I said, “but where are the gods?”

Demetrios looked at me as if in pity. “Here,” he said pointing to his scroll, “right here. In every line.”
