“In loving memory of…” / Memorable Fancies #840

       The funeral was brief. “Stanley Morton,” the officiant said, “had not been proud of his corrupt and dissolute life, and his final request was that everyone just forget him – forget he’d ever lived. So let us briefly remember Mr. Morton now,” the officiant said, “and then, as he wished, forget him.”

       There was a moment of bowed heads and bells.

       People rose and headed for the exit, wondering why they’d been to this place. A death, surely, given candles and casket. But whose?
