A TV is invented that customizes a show in response to our wishes. In Washington, for instance, the Sunday talk shows display the deep respect Republicans and Democrats have for each other.

Why do we sometimes remember events that never happened? This puts the whole concept of “happened” into question, doesn’t it? Why do we remember our shameful defeats that surely never happened? Couldn’t have happened. Could they?
#
The curtain rises. Some have come to see the famous actor in King Lear. Others have free tickets and it’s cold outside.
#
The coughing of those who have expensive theatre seats is more important than the coughing of those beneath them. A refined cough, heard by those below, is a reminder of the poverty of their own coughs.
