     “What angle would you like your hand to be?” the surgeon asked. “I could make it look so good no one will ever guess you’re crippled until you reach for something, or I could make it strange enough to get you sidelong looks and condescension; you decide.
     “Your hand won’t be able to do a few things now,” he said, “all the simple things you want to do and won’t know you can’t do until you try, hand wagging futilely in air.”
     He roared and slapped his leg and winked at me and waved his perfect hands. – No he didn’t. He was very concerned and serious and caring.

I would have preferred anything else.
