A fanfare, and the vitally important announcement begins. The Leader, the lesser leaders, the little leaders are all there. We turn the TV volume up, watch their moving mouths, the lips, the eyes.
We change the color settings: the lips turn a garish red, the eyes rabid brown. The leaders are telling us to have faith in them, to believe, behave. The war will soon be won, they say, the war we know of only because the leaders have told us there is a war and that it is virtuous and necessary. The war, the leaders say, will soon end.
Soon end. Soon end.
