“The Flowers – I” / A Memorable Fancy #151

The cemeteries in our suburb allow plastic flowers only. Nothing placed on a grave can be allowed to fade, wilt, rot. The illusion must be maintained that our loved ones are as immortal as plastic, as perfect as plastic, as immune to fading, wilting, rotting.

Those of us who do not want to be turned into plastic have taken our lives elsewhere.
