“The Jolt” / A Memorable Fancy #109

All we could talk about was where we were when The Jolt hit, and how it felt. Something like an earthquake, but not quite. Not a lightning strike, not a sonic boom. We agreed: The Jolt was less like those things, more like something happening in our minds. A piece taken out of a completed puzzle, that jostles all the rest so we can’t tell which piece was missing, or where it had come from, or what part of the design it had revealed to us.
Something is missing from our lives, now. We don’t know what. We remember that it seemed very important. Whatever it was.
